It’s been five years since we signed the lease for our shop on Morning Lane, and its time for us to be moving on. We’ve had a blast and hope you all have too.
The nature of both our premises and location has allowed us to do exactly what we set out to do. That is, serve the best food and drinks possible to a crowd that came off the beaten track to enjoy it. We kept the operation small and consistent, which rewarded us with a dedicated customer base, allowing us to experiment and enjoy ourselves. The basement shows and bar-b-ques were sketchy and ridiculously fun. Those nights gave us a chance to show another side of what Railroad is about.
With such rapid change in the area, there has come a time where we either need to change what we do or stick it in a time capsule. The latter sounding like the Railroad way.
Short of making a real time capsule, which actually sounds like a pretty cool idea, we will be bringing out a book that will document the last 5 years and tell you how to cook our food. There is no ETA yet for this but we ask you to send us an email to firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject ‘mailing list’ to be added to our mailing list for all future news.
We’ll be closing our doors at 5pm on Saturday 14th March so please come and visit us before then. We would like to return at some point, whether under Railroad or under a new name, but for now we just want to thank all of our customers for getting us this far on our first business venture.
WHAT WE DO
Railroad is a café/restaurant. We are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner from Wednesday to Saturday, and Sunday breakfast and lunch. Our menus are produce led, modestly sized and constantly changing. We make wonderful Square Mile coffee in some cups that my mum made, and sell delicious beers including Camden Town Lager and The Kernel Pale Ale (brewed in Bermondsey). Also from Bermondsey we get the best of French and Italian natural and organic wines from Aubert and Mascoli, and some of the most wonderful cheese in the world from Mons.
